Schoolpage Challenge 1 - Anton Residaschool

Page history last edited by Varsha Soekhradj-Bahadoersingh R.S 9 years, 7 months ago

The right to good food, clean water and health care.

Topic 1: The right to good food

The children are busy drawing the cartoon-pics..

Everyone has the right to healthy food, to use fresh vegetables, bread etc.
Not everyone can afford to send their child to school with a roll.

Topic 2: CLEAN WATER...

Water is one of the most important basic we need to survive.

We can live a few days without food, but can't live without water

It's used for everything and we need it daily.

We drink it, wash ourselves with it, cook and clean the house... everything with WATER.

However, we should appreciate water more, for it's very valuable.

We have the right to access to clean water for everyone.

This drawing refers to that right that we as human beings schould have access to clean water.

There are many children who don't have access to clean water and sometimes have to get water out of a well or a tap that is shared with many other households.

Usually these taps are very far away from their homes.

They even have carry this water walking long distances to their homes.

Every gallon you save
There is one more for a other.

 water

Some purified water from different companies in Suriname.

Here is a description of purpose of one of the companies

Basic One

Basic One is natural water from the Zanderij aquifer and is aerated and filtrated through a shell filter by SWM NV, the largest local water supplier of the country.
When the water arrives at Future Beverages NV it goes through various filters and through a UV lamp. The water is then ozonated before being bottled and distributed throughout the country by DTS NV.

Anton Resida school is one of the many users of basic one

Topic 3: HEALTH CARE

Children have so many rights. Some very importants rights are :

  • right to education
  • right to grow up in a safe and healthy environment
  • right to play
  • right to be protected by loves ones
  • and many more....

In Suriname, unfortunately, just like in many other countries these rights  do not count for all children.

There are some children who already work to help with financial income.

Some households could not be called safe for domestic violence still plays part in many families.

The government and the Surinamese society should all work towards creating a happy and healthy environment for everyone....

Here above you can see a picture of the Academic hospital of Suriname

Academic hospital has a basic care package which matches that of the general hospitals, namely the regular patient care and the training function for medical specialists.

From 1 July 2013.

All children and seniors citizens in the target group 0 to 16 years and 60 years and older receive an insurance card issued, which they qualify for the free health insurance.

1. What is the purpose of the free health insurance?

  • Standard offer healthcare to the population. This means that they have equivalent health insurance to prevent discrimination based on illness, infirmity, income, age and other risks.

2. What does the insurance cover?

  • The health insurance is a sustainable investment in a quality management system which disease can be controlled early and can be prevented. The health insurance is not only paying a comprehensive basic package of health services, as is currently the case, but also to prevent disease and having a healthy nation

The Suriname Water Company (SWM) is the largest national operating waterworks of Suriname.

The company provides daily more than 250,000 people with drinking water in Paramaribo and other areas in the coastal region of Suriname.

Mission:

  • SWM is a reliable water company that with the use of specialized and motivated staff provides its customers economically and socially responsible manner of wholesome drinking water, to the highest standards

Vision:

  • SWM is the leading water company in the Caribbean, focusing on excellent service to its customers.

Slogan:

  • HEALTHY WATER FOR EVERYONE

Most students live in the district Wanica.

Our drinking water we get from SWM and some of us catch rainwater.
On Leiding 9A there is a water source of SWM

Tips for saving water !!!
• Do not just stand a bucket under an open faucet.
• Do not open the shower while you lather.
• Do not open the tap while brushing your teeth.
• Car wash with a garden hose takes a lot more water than washing car with a bucket of water.
• An automatic washing machine uses more water than a semiautomatic.
• Wash with a bucket of soapy water and rinse well your washing in a basin.
• Plants wetting takes a lot of water. Do it only in exceptional cases and not in full sun.
