The right to education and protection against child labour.

Education in Suriname is predominantly Dutch and exhibits many characteristics of the (former) Dutch educational system. Education is free and compulsory for children between 6 and 12 years.

Over 90 percent of the population can read and write.

Suriname has since 1967 a University, the Anton de Kom University

Some rights of the child:

  • YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO INFORMATION

What are your rights with which you know nothing from it?

So you have the right to know your rights.

Furthermore, you are entitled to information about other things that are important to you: the rules at school for example, about what's happening in your           community or in the world, or what happens when you get divorced parents.

  • YOU HAVE LEGAL RIGHT TO EDUCATION

Maybe you think this is a strange right? Like the school rather a duty than a right? Still, getting into the world still tens of millions of children the chance to go to             school.

Previously, only education was also with us a right for children with rich parents.

Other children had to work to earn money. Or they had to help at home.

            That is not fair.

Also because children who can read and write later get more chances in life.

To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn reading, writing and arithmetic, the right to education has become a duty.

  • YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO PROTECTION

Some children still get beaten, are obliged to fight in a war, or being bullied.

All things which children should be protected.

Even if you do something wrong, adults should not hit or punish you hard.

Child labor is caused by various reasons.

A few reasons are poverty, parents have a loan and there is no work for the parents.

Unfortunately, child labor also occurs in our country.

This research revealed in the year 2002.

Further been established that gender, there are more boys than girls are involved in child labor.

Some forms of child labor are known image of children that offer fruit for sale at (busy) intersections of public roads in and around Paramaribo, the teenagers as attendant working at the service stations and the situation of children with wheelbarrows to Albina.
